Wow!

It has been over 2 years since I started writing Using open source software to design, develop, and deploy a collaborative Web site with my friends and colleagues Louis and Alister. We received an email from our editor at developerWorks that it was time to move our articles to the archive section.

Wow, it has been a long long time since I updated this blog. Eli complained a couple days ago about it not being kept up to date and I realized that it is almost a year since my last post. A lot has changed so read on!

In February word came down that AdTech (the group in IBM that I worked in) was being dissolved and we all had to find new places to work. In late March I moved to Software Group, working in the Massachusetts Design Studio with Louis and Alister the other authors of the now infamous Drupal series on IBM’s developerWorks .

We published Part 9: Understanding the database layer in our on going series about Drupal on developerWorks several weeks ago. The article describes how the Drupal database abstraction layer works using the pager system and our announcement module as discussion points.

We conclude the article with a “gift” to the Drupal community: support for IBM DB2 Express-C. Hopefully someone will take our work and finish it for later versions of Drupal .

The next article in our developerWorks series on Drupal was published today. Check out Part 6 which details how to build a custom Drupal module.

We are making progress on parts 7, 8 and 9. If all goes well they should be released in October. Writing 1 article is time consuming; writing an entire series is challenging.

I decided to treat myself to a new toy for all my hard work: a Nikon D80 . I got the kit with the 18-135mm lens and I have already put it to good use when we were in Salem. The camera is outstanding and I am looking forward to getting the SB-600 flash and a nice Crumpler backpack for the camera and m
